I Believe There Are Angels Among Us Blog Hop ~

Oh I believe there are angels among us,
Sent down to us from somewhere up above.
They come to you and me in our darkest hours,
To show us how to live, to teach us how to give,
To guide us with the light of love.

When life held troubled times and had me down on my knees,
There’s always been someone there to come along and comfort me.
A kind word from a stranger, to lend a helping hand,
A phone call from a friend, just to say I understand.

Today's hop may be the story of our own Guardian Angel who watches over us, the beauty of angels, or just expressing kind words. The craft blogging world is phenomenal as sharing loving thoughts and caring towards others.

We have fabulous sponsors today:

Lucy Kelleher, A Close to My Heart representative, has graciously offered a stamp set called "Angelic Blessings" to one lucky winner that becomes a follower of her blog!

Daisy Collins of I Love Sketches by Tsunami Rose, , also has a Zibbet store, , where she designs beautiful papers - has graciously offered to custom design a paper for one very very lucky winner that becomes a follower of her blog!

If you were visiting me today, I appreciate and love you visiting me, but would want you to start at the beginning of the hop not as to miss a single angel with Lynne. If you have arrived from Katie, then you are in the right flight!

My mother and I have never had a "bad" relationship but we weren't extremely close either. We would call each other every so often to catch up. About 3 years ago, she was diagnosed with oral cancer. I had never dealt with this issue and had no idea what to expect. Sparing you all of the details, she suffered some very dark days when she became ill from the radiation and chemotherapy. She told me that during her radiation treatments, she had to take her mind to another place to get through it and she kept repeating "but those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles". Although this diagnosis was devastating, my mother and I are closer than ever and call each other 3-4-5-6 times a day. Life is precious and you do not know when your last day on this earth will be. Have faith that there ARE angels among you...even though you may not see them.
This was the day she received her "clean bill of health" certificate. She remains cancer free today.

Cards for Operation Write Home

Welcome ~ Welcome ~ Welcome

I have started to accumulate cards to send to Operation Write Home so I thought I would share a few of them with you. OWH is a non profit organization that sends handmade cards to soldiers currently deployed so they can keep in touch with their family and friends.  I have seen so many testimonials and videos from the soldiers that really warm your heart....especially when they receive a new box! Seems the cards go really quick so there is never an end to the need.
Sandy Allnock is the President and Founder and has done an amazing job! She recently received letters from the 1st and 2nd ladies of the United States commending her for the hard work and effort she has put into OWH!!! How cool is that??   Way to go Sandy!!

The proper way to send in your cards:
OWH will send you this stamp for FREE! All cards must be stamped on the back and it really helps them save time if we take a few minutes to do this.

Here are the guidelines to consider when making your card:  http://operationwritehome.org/files/OWHCardHospitalBrochure.pdf
If you need some inspiration, OWH has over 150 sketches so the hard part is already done! I have pinned a lot of card ideas on Pinterest from the OWH blog hop and misc postings.
Testimonial from a deployed soldier.......
I received the box of Operation Write Home cards this morning. You all are AMAZING! Not only did it bring a huge smile to my face when I saw them but it has already lifted the morale in this place! I sit in a busy office so I placed the box on the front end of my desk and offer them to everyone who enters. I can see the look of appreciation on every face and when they say how thankful they are for them I make sure to let them know exactly who they came from. It’s the little things that keep us going. Thank you so much, your selfless actions and pride for our country make you our heroes!!

I hope you take time to consider making cards for OWH. It really is a worthy cause and means so much to the recipients. If you do, please let me know! Would love to see your creations ~ always looking for inspiration! Stay up to date with the OWH Facebook Page!  Have a crafty day everybody!!
P. S. Scroll all the way to the bottom of my blog....see the ticker? That helps motivate me to continue making cards until I reach my goal of 150. Then I can reset the numbers and continue. Pretty neat!

Have you checked out A Homespun Affair's blog yet? This month's challenge is to create something using the following colors:
I thought my card base was a little more tan but that's ok. I created this challenge card with Operation Write Home in mind so I am sure someone around the world will find a good home for it. :-) For the challenge, you can also use one of the featured projects such as a tri fold card or frame. May have to try one of those too! Hope you have time to join in on the fun!
Supplies used:
Cricut Lacy Labels Cartridge cut at 2-1/4"
TPC Studio Stamps - Dots & Stripes (ST93459)

Easel Card Hop ~

Hey everybody ~ Thanks for taking the time to stop in and see me today. This is my very first ever easel card! It was so easy...can't wait to make another one. Shame I have spent so much time admiring them but thinking "I could never do that"!  Special thanks to our host Ashley for helping me step outside the box!!
If you are here from the fabulous Jamie, you are on the right track. I will try make this short and sweet so you can head on over to rockin' Robin and see what she has in store for you!

For the card base I used Martha Stewart Crafts Essential Paper Pad and Spellbinders Lattice Rectangles and Labels Four dies.

I scored the top layer 1/2 way to create the easel

I used Watercolor paper for the image, Spectrum Noir markers, CTMH Dutch Blue dye ink and Stardust powdered chalk from Stamp n Plus Scrap n. The ribbon is Offray and the stamp is from K Andrews Scripture Sayings applied with copper embossing powder.
For the inside of the card, I used Hero Arts Good Friends stamp and copper embossing powder finishing it off with Hero Arts Pearls & Gems to give the card a place to prop.

Hope you are enjoying your walk through the easel card hop! If you have been here before, you know how I love to share! Instead of posting the prize, Random.org will choose one of my followers to receive something they can use! I will contact the winner to see if they like stamps, ribbons, brads, etc. Winner will be drawn on Wednesday 8/15/12.
Time to head on over and see Robin!!
~~~~~ Have a wonderful week ~~~~~
